If there is "PROOF" that that Mary Ann is the daughter of Ezekiel & Mary (Denton), it will need to be presented to me, otherwise she will NOT be linked to that couple. Mary Ann was never in Ohio or Connecticut.

Benjamin & Mary Ann (Hull) Wadsworth were the parents of: Joseph b. 1831, Sarah Louisa, b. 1733, Sarah Jane b. abt 1834, Moses b. 1836, Eleanor Ellen b. 1838, Lucinda b. 1841, Elizabeth A. b. 1844, Samuel b. 1865, John Artiss b. 1849, Mary Margaret b. 1852.

Samuel, the son of Benjamin and Mary Ann (Hull) Wadsworth, was born in 1847. He never married and therefore, when his parents became too old to take care of themselves, they were able to apply for a pension in place of their son. After being notified of their sons death, Benjamin applied for and received $75.00 by a Treasury Certificate No. 291,503, issued March 13, 1867. This was money due Samuel for his service. On April 22, 1884, Mary Ann, aged 77 years, applied for a pension as the mother of Samuel and again in July of 1885. On March 29, 1886 Mary Ann gave a sworn statement:

"Personally came before me a Justice of the Peace in and for said County and State (Washington County, PA) the said Mary A. Wadsworth aged 79 years on 22 of April next, a citizen of California, Washington County, state of Pennsylvania, known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly qualified declared in relation to aforesaid call as follows: In the Year 1884, I lived in or near California, and have continued to reside in the same neighborhood ever since. In 1864, my family consisted of my husband who is now in his 84th year, and ten children, viz., Joseph born September 26th 1831, Louisa, born in the year 1833, Jane born 1834, Moses 1836, Ellen 1838, Lucinda 1841, Lizzie A. in 1844, Samuel, the Soldier, born in 1847, John in 1849, and Mary M. in 1852, of this number four were with me in 1864. To wit: Lucinda, Lizzie A., John and Mary M. the other except Moses and Samuel were married and gone. Moses went away and we never heard from him, he left several years before the war. My son Samuel, was never married and therefore leaves no wife or child. He was a great help to me before he went away, and sent us money after he went into the army before he was captured. My husband had no property in 1864 and has none yet and by reason of age and infirmity is unable to earn a livelihood. Samuel went to the Army in 1863.: Signed Mary A. (x) Wadsworth (her mark)

Because Benjamin was still living, he had to submit proof that he was unable to support his family. On March 26, 1886, Dr. H. S. Chalfant gave his statement as to Benjamin's medical condition. He states that "Sometime in the summer of 1862 I treated Benjamin Wadsworth for indigestion and torpid liver and have given him more or less treatment for the same ever since. The cause of the liver trouble is chronic hepatitis. He has not be able to earn a livelihood since I first treated him in 1862. In either 1872 or 73 he became so debilitated that he had to quit house keeping and since that time he has only been able to work occasionally. He is now unable to do anything but the very lightest of work and very little of that."

Mary Ann received a Pension of $8.00 commencing retroactively May 1, 1884, the date on which she filed her original claim and $12.00 from March 19, 1886 after an increase had been approved by the Government.

Mary Ann states that she married Benjamin at Dunbar Township, Connelsville, Fayette County, PA on December 14, 1830, by Justice of Peace Kephart, and that at the time of Samuel's death she had two children still living at home under the age of 16 years. They were: John born 2 Oct 1849 and Margaret born 8 July 1852.

Mary Ann died on October 27, 1891 at Monarch, PA and the pension was transferred to her husband. Benjamin continued to receive the $12.00 per month pension until his death in January 1899, at Stockdale, Washington County, PA.
