JoAnne Olson, 80, of Pierpont passed away on Sunday October 11, 220 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 16, 2020 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn.

Walk through visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday 5-7 P.M.

JoAnne Lee Bistodeau was born on June 10, 1940 to Gilbert and Leone (Olson) Bistodeau at the family farm near Claremont, South Dakota. She attended country school in Newport Township and Langford High School.

On June 15, 1958, she was united in marriage to Franklin Olson at Langford, South Dakota. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Pierpont where they farmed and raised their four children: Christie, Tom, Diane, and Kay. JoAnne was instrumental in the farming operation not only driving machinery and milking cows, but also making sure her home was taken care of and providing wholesome meals for her family. She also worked for the Headstart Program in Eden and the Strand Kjorsvig Living Center in Roslyn.

JoAnne was a member of Fron Lutheran Church where she was Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a volunteer for the election board as well as a Farmers Union youth leader for many years. JoAnne was a remarkable seamstress and also enjoyed knitting, bird watching, needle point, gardening, dancing, camping, and fishing. Above all else, she cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

JoAnne passed away Sunday October 11, 2020 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 80 years, 4 months, and 1 day.

She will be greatly missed by her husband Franklin of Pierpont, SD, son Tom (Sara) Olson of Billings, MT, daughter Diane (Leon) Gaikowski of Webster, SD, son-in-law Joe Janisch of Watertown, SD, two brothers: Harlan (Sandra) Bistodeau of Claremont, SD, Steven (Joellen) Bistodeau of Aberdeen, SD, sister Lynda (Richard) Jaycox of Pierce, CO, 13 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters: Christie Sattler and Kay Janisch, and one great-granddaughter Reese Fischer.
