Sandra A. Shaw, 53, of Dallas, passed away Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020, after a brief illness.

Born Nov. 25, 1966, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret Metzger. Sandy graduated from James M. Coughlin High School, Class of 1984, where she lettered in basketball, softball, field hockey and was captain of the cheerleading squad.

Sandy worked at the Luzerne County Courthouse as the administrative assistant in the Office of Law. She was also given the unofficial title of "Director of Special Projects." She worked many different activities and always looked forward to picking out the annual Christmas tree. Prior to working at the courthouse, she owned and operated a hair salon for many memorable years. Sandy would always go above and beyond in everything she did.

Sandy's greatest accomplishment and joy were her children. She was a fun, energetic and loving mother, who was always involved in her kids' lives. Some of her proudest moments came from coaching youth sports for several different teams including The Cyclones, The Phoenix, Dallas girls travel basketball and Dallas girls youth basketball.

Later in life, Sandy met the man of her dreams, whom she married and cherished every minute with. She always said he was her mirror and her other half. They built a wonderful life together and would do anything for each other.

Sandy was a strong, adventurous, and caring person. She would constantly put others' needs before her own and would help anyone. Sandy also loved to travel with her family and friends. Some of the best memories were made during camping trips, beach vacations and trips to Disney, along with many others. She was the life of the party and always told the best stories. Sandy loved spending time outdoors, especially when the sun was shining.

In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her brother, Donald A. Metzger, and stepbrother, Charles W. Olson Sr.

Surviving are her husband, Aaron Shaw; son, David J. Zurek and girlfriend, Morgan R. Andersen; daughter, Sabrina S. Zurek and her boyfriend, David J. Sieklicki; brother, Robert Metzger; nephew, Matthew J. Metzger and his wife, Chelsae; niece, Dr. Kaileen A. Metzger; and step-children, Taylor Shaw and Adam Shaw.

Relatives and friends are invited to call for a celebration of life from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, for a walkthrough visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of family.

In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in Sandy's memory, to carry on her passion and love for nature. Truly there are not enough words to describe the impact that Sandy had on this world.
