GALENA, Kan. — Stephanie Danielle Bailey, age 20, 905 S. Main, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident at 12:42 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, on JJ Highway, west of Joplin.

Stephanie was born Sept. 7, 1987, in Joplin. She was a lifetime resident of Galena. She was a student at Labette County Community College, Parsons, Kan. She was a graduate of Galena High School, class of 2006. She was on the first girls golf team, Youth Friends and played softball. She was a 13 year member of Girl Scouts and earned her Gold Award. She was on the Galena Election Board. She was employed by the Sultan of Smoke, Joplin. Among her interests were fishing, camping and other outdoor activities.

Surviving are her parents, Rob and Brenda Rogers, Galena; two brothers, Brandon Bailey, Baxter Springs, Kan., and Cody Rogers, Galena; one sister, Amber Moates and husband, Cory, Baxter Springs; maternal grandparents, Clark and Jane Sturgis; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Joyce Rogers, Greenwood, Ark.; biological father, Stephen W. Tanner; numerous aunts and uncles; four nieces; and one nephew.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena. Pastor Jeff Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Gandy Cemetery, west of Galena. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Derfelt Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to the Stephanie Bailey Fund in care of the funeral home.



GALENA WOMAN DIES IN TRAFFIC COLLISION

A Galena, Kan., woman was killed and a Kansas man seriously injured in a collision early Wednesday four miles south of Joplin, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Stephanie D. Bailey, 20, of Galena, was traveling south on Route JJ at about 12:30 a.m. when her pickup truck crossed the center line and ran head-on into a northbound truck driven by Oscar E. Lathrop, 70, of Weir, Kan.

Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Coroner Jerry Neil.

Lathrop was transported to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin for treatment. His condition was unavailable Wednesday night.
