Journalist and Author. He was a reporter and columnist with The New York Times, and the author or co-author of six non-fiction books. Before joining The New York Times, he wrote columns for New York Newsday and the New York Daily News. He also appeared in the 2012 documentary film Central Park Five and was portrayed on stage in Nora Ephron's Lucky Guy (2013). He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1995 for his columns about New York City and was also a member of the New York Newsday team that won the 1992 Pulitzer for coverage of the 1991 Union Square subway derailment in Manhattan. He joined the Times in May 2001 and contributed to the paper's coverage of the September 11 attacks, the invasion of Iraq, and how intelligence was allegedly manipulated to create the illusion that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction. He is the author or co-author of six non-fiction books including “More Awesome Than Money: Four Boys, Three Years, and a Chronicle of Ideals and Ambition in Silicon Valley” (2015), “False Conviction: Innocence, Science and Guilt” (2014), “Main article: 102 Minutes: The Untold Story of the Fight to Survive Inside the Twin Towers” (2005), “Actual Innocence: Five Days to Execution and Other Dispatches from the Wrongly Convicted” (2000), “Two Seconds Under the World” (1994), and “Subway Lives: 24 Hours in the Life of the New York Subways” (1991). He was the About New York columnist at The New York Times from April 2007 until his death.
