William was supposed to be 6’6” tall and weighed over 300 pounds.

He was nicknamed “Big Billy”.

He was married to Rebecca Proffitt (14 children) and had six children by her sister Sarah Proffitt while living in Kentucky. Rebecca and William moved to Tazewell County in the part that is now Buchanan County.

The children of Sarah Proffitt took the Proffitt name rather than Stacy.

He also had several children by Sariah Mallett Davis (never married) and after being widowed he married Rebecca Blankenship (sister of Hezekiah Blankenship) and had 12 children by her.

A total of at least 33 children—I am not sure how many he had with Sariah Mallett—at least one—Kizziah Stacy—who uses the name Davis on her marriage record.

He was buried in a hollowed out poplar log because there were no caskets to fit his size.

I think the woman in the picture is probably Sarah Proffitt but we are not sure.

Apparently, Sarah wanted to marry William, but he married her sister Rebecca instead, so she said if she couldn’t marry him, she would have his children.

William "Big Billy" Stacy had multiple wives and mistresses. Records show least two marriages and one mistress, but others, which seem to be more accurate, show two or three wives and two mistresses. He fathered 35 childre
