Nicholas T. Vanikiotis
POUGHKEEPSIE Nicholas T. Vanikiotis, 76, died Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Mr. Vanikiotis was a local restaurateur for the last 26 years. He and his family own and operate the Palace Diner, The Daily Planet, and Barnaby's Restaurant. He served in the Greek Army from 1951 until 1954. H was a member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church. Mr. Vanikiotis was born on May 15, 1931 in Skoteini, Greece to Theodore Vanikiotis and Maria Anghelis. He married his wife, Maria Igonis, in Skoteini on July 30, 1956. She survives him at home. Mr. Vanikiotis is survived by: his son and daughter-in-law, Theodore and Roseanne Vanikiotis and their daughter Maria Teresa; his son Peter Vanikiotis and his son Nicholas and daughter Maria; and his son and daughter-in-law, Dino and Lisa Vanikiotis, and their three sons Christopher, Michael, and Zachary. He is also survived by his brothers: George and wife Mary of Salt Lake City, UT; Vassili and wife Irene of Salt Lake City, UT; Peter and wife Sophia of Hempstead, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the Dyson Center at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY. A funeral will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, Sept. 22nd at the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church. A burial will take place at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 9:00pm on Fri., Sept. 21 at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie.
