He was proud to be a veteran. He served in the Army in Vietnam from 1964-1966. He retired from Lewis Bakeries in September, 2001 after 42 years. Ray loved working with his hands, especially woodworking and refinishing antique furniture. All of his friends and family will tell you that he was the first to come and help when needed, even before they realized they needed him.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents Mary (Gries) and Lawrence Koch; his brother,Thomas Koch killed in Vietnam 1966 and his daughter, Amy (Koch) Kirsch.
His surviving family are his wife, Sylvia (Mayse) Koch; his son, Gary (Stephanie) and their children, Blake and Jake; and his son-in-law Michael Kirsch and Michael & Amy's children, Victoria, Samantha & Nicholas.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 aMasks should be worn by all who attend. Due to the pandemic, the Mass of Christian Burial will be private. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Club will conduct military rites. Published in Courier Press from October 11, to October 12, 2020.
