Gregory Scott Matheny, 43, of Montpelier, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007 at his home. He was born May 24, 1964 in Waynesboro, Va., a son of Rodney and Patsy Matheny. Greg graduated from high school and went on to become a front-end mechanic, and also worked construction with his brothers. He was an avid New York Giants fan and loved NASCAR. He was preceded in death by his father. Surviving are his mother, Patsy; his fiancée, Annette Denecker of Montpelier; two daughters, Lauren and Kelly Matheny of Henrico; his brothers, Rodney "Bub" Matheny and wife, Ruth, Brian Matheny and wife, Debbie, Dean Matheny and wife, Gale; his sisters, Carolyn Richardson, Pam Inge and husband, Joe, Linda Sexton and husband, Ken; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at McDow Funeral Home by Rev. John Hamric. Interment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. The family received friends prior to the service Thursday. A special thanks to Anita Conner N.P., Tricia, Ashley, and all of the nurses at the Virginia Cancer Institute, and Norma and Bon Secours Hospice.
