Obituary:

Richard "Rev" Earl Toney was the ninth child of 12 children born to the late Merry Gabriel Toney and Eliza Erskin Toney in Madison County, Alabama on January 24, 1936.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers: JD, Harris, Lawrence, Ivery, Jimmie (Big Jim), Carl and Gabriel; son: Phillip Anthony Toney and one sister: Nina. He transitioned from his earthly home on Friday, January 4, 2020 at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, Alabama.

Rev accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Gospel Lighthouse Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Later he relocated to Huntsville, Alabama and united with the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church (New Haven), Madison, Alabama under the pastorship of Reverend Robert Lee Toney (uncle). Upon moving to Huntsville, he joined the St. James Primitive Baptist Church under the pastorship of Reverend Amos Donaldson. While at St. James, he served in the Male Chorus and on the Trustee Board until his health began to fail.

He held various positions in the workforce in Chattanooga and Huntsville. He later retired from the Dunlop Tire Company.

He leaves to cherish his memories sons: Rufus Earl Toney and Merry Dewayne Toney, both of Triana, Alabama; daughters: Earlene Toney Watkins and Cynthia (Wayne) McDonald, both of Huntsville, Alabama; two brothers: Leo (Sandra) Toney and James (Altamese) Toney, both of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one sister: Irene Dixson of Chattanooga, Tennessee; sisters-in-law: Mary Toney and Laura Toney of Chattanooga, Tennessee; grandchildren: Monica C. Toney, Latoya Watkins, Labrosus Watkins, Lakisha Grays, Cory Toney, and Jarvis Moore; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, St. James Primitive Baptist Church family and friends.

A public viewing for Richard will be held Friday, January 10, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home. A repose will occur Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Bartley Primitive Baptist Church, 3020 Belafonte Avenue NW, Huntsville, Alabama 35816. A homegoing service will follow at 12:00 PM. An interment will occur at Faith Memorial Park.
