After graduating, she went to work at a bank in San Antonio, Texas. She married her sweetheart, Theodore (Ted) Hiesser, Jr. on August 6, 1955 in Stonewall, Texas. She and Ted moved from San Antonio, Texas to Houston, Texas to Cincinnati, Ohio to Birmingham, Alabama to Montgomery, Alabama to West Palm Beach, Florida to Raleigh, North Carolina and then back to Houston, Texas in 1972.

Evelyn and Ted drove classic cars: T-birds, a Model A, an Edsel, and of course their Mustangs! They belonged to the Thunderbird Classic Car Club and then the AACA Car Club for many years. They drove their RV to the Indy 500 race for 20 plus years. Evelyn and Ted traveled all across the US in their RV. They went across the pond to England and France, including London, Paris, Arras, and Mulhouse. Evelyn volunteered at church in many different positions. She was always helping family and friends. She loved dancing with her husband including square dancing and of course country and western dancing, especially to George Strait songs!
