James F. Stafford, 95, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 5:52 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2020 at Keepsake Village of Columbus.

Mr. Stafford was born March 8, 1925, in Raleigh, Illinois, the son of Henry A. and Vernita Fern Miller Hale. On June 27, 1948, James married Virginia “Ginny” Foltz; she preceded him in death November 13, 2017.

Mr. Stafford was United States Army veteran of World War II. He served with the 35th Division and participated in the European Theatre Operation. He was honorably discharged July 28, 1946.

Mr. Stafford was an engineer at Cummins Engine Company retiring after many years of service.

Survivors include a daughter, Rita (Gary) Montgomery of Columbus, Ohio; grandsons, Jason (Jaimee) Montgomery of Montgomery, Alabama, Joel (Andrea) Montgomery of Columbus, Ohio, Justin (Amy) Montgomery of Westerville, Ohio, Joshua Montgomery of Mount Vernon, Ohio, Alex Lee of Woodstock, Georgia and Andy Lee of Marietta, Georgia; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Stafford was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ginny Stafford; daughter, Cindy Stafford Baldwin; and brothers, W.J. Stafford and Sam Stafford.

A private family service will be held at the Garland Brook Mausoleum; Tyler Tolbert will officiate.

Full military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
