Robert Dale “Bob” Coffey, 77 years of age of Vansant, VA, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born July 21, 1943 in Vansant, VA, he was the son of the late James Horace Coffey and Goldie Pearl Yates Coffey.
“Bob” was a dedicated Christian and active member and Senior Deacon of Big Prater Baptist Church, always faithful to attend services. He retired from Buchanan County School Board where he worked as foreman at the bus garage. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, beekeeping, and always willing to help others. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
In addition to his parents James Horace Coffey and Goldie Pearl Yates Coffey, he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Ann “Patsy” Coffey.
Survivors include his sons Timothy Wayne “Tim” Coffey of Kingsport, TN, Christopher Robert “Chris” Coffey and husband Michael Thomas of North Bend, WA; sister Mina Smith and husband Roger of Grundy, VA; brother Dave Coffey and wife Joan of Arlington, VA.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law Peggy Layne of Vansant, VA, grandchildren Alexandra Elizabeth Clayman and husband Zac, Victoria Layne Coffey-Brush and husband Drew, Timothy “Sutton” Coffey, Braeden Alexander Coffey; great-grandchildren Liam, Mila, Everlie, Anniston and Zara, step-great-grandchildren Aiden, Billy and Tori; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Grave Side Service for Robert Dale “Bob” Coffey will be held at the Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock, VA, Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Jim Fuller officiating. Burial will follow.
Active pallbearers will be his family and friends.
