Obituary for Ida Belle Long

Ida Belle Long, 99, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on October 7, 2020 at Regent Park Assisted Living in Wichita, Kansas. She was born August 31, 1921 in Davis County, Iowa to Walter and Mabel Luko Henderson. She married Earl Edward Long in May 1941 in Lancaster, Missouri. The couple lived on a farm northeast of Bloomfield for many years and raised two children, James and Jerry. Earl passed away in November 1987.

Ida Belle worked at Coast to Coast, Nardini’s Grocery, and Whitacre’s Meat Locker all on the Bloomfield Square. Ida Belle also worked on the farm raising chickens, selling eggs, and growing a garden. She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church and in her younger years was active with Mainstreet in helping preserve the Bloomfield Square.

She is survived by two sons, James Edward (Mary Yvonne) Long of Jefferson City, Missouri, Jerry (Nita) Long of Stearman Field, Kansas; and two granddaughters, Lona Long, Julie (Charles) Henry both of Wichita, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and five siblings, Ethel Scott, Marie Humphrey, George Henderson, Florence Gilliand, and Dean Henderson.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield with Rev. Leslie Dotson officiating. No visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bloomfield Christian Church in her name.
