In 1920 she and her parents and three siblings lived in a house they owned, mortgage free, on Main Street in Worthington, PA. Her father worked as a deliverer for a grocery store.

In 1930 the six of them lived in probably the same house, Their home was valued at $8000, and they did have a radio. Her father worked as a merchant, with a grocery store.

In 1940 she and her husband lived in a house they were renting for $50 a month at 565 South Braddock Avenue in Pittsburgh, PA. He worked as a bookkeeper for a clock manufacturer, with an income in 1939 of $1500 for 52 weeks of work.

In 1950 she and her husband and their two children lived in a house on Main Street in Worthington, PA. Lester worked as an accountant for a ceramics company, with an income in 1949 of $4200 for 52 weeks of work.

Hazel Olive (Long) Hoyt, 87, of Worthington RD1 died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, East Franklin Township.

She was born Sept. 9, 1914 in Worthington to John Hazlett and Olive May (Colwell) Long.

Mrs. Hoyt was a music teacher in the Armstrong School District, where she served as music supervisor at Worthington High and Elementary schools. She also gave private piano lessons and played at various social functions.

A 1932 Kittanning High School graduate, she graduated from Westminster College Conservatory of Music in 1936, where she was a member of the Omicron Mu Gamma sorority.

She was a member of the Worthington Presbyterian Church, where she served as choir director and organist for more than 70 years after beginning at age 13 and retiring in March 2000. An active member of the church, she also served on many other committees.

Survivors include two sons, John W. Hoyt of North Canton, Ohio and Gerald R. Hoyt of Morgantown, W. Va.; one daughter, Linda J. Hoyt of Gales Ferry, Conn.; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Matt Hoyt; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester Eugene "Bill" Hoyt, whom she married Aug. 19, 1939 and who died in 1987; and three brothers, Clifford Long, Carl Long and Glenn Long.

HOYT - Friends of Hazel Olive (Long) Hoyt, 87, of Worthington RD1, who died Oct. 31, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home, 424 Bear St., Worthington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Worthington Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jonathan Speck officiating. Interment will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, East Franklin Township.
