Very little is known about Alonzo Crawford Tillery....did his mother Miss Dale die at birth? Leaving this baby to his father to raise? If this is the case then I am very proud that he stepped up and took this innocent child in. It would appear that the ghost of whatever present or past caught up with this young man and he simply could no longer take the fate that life had dealt him through no fault of his own.... Here is what my aunt and I have pieced together....He is lost to time but not to family.

Alonzo Crawford Tillery - death certificate

1933

Cause of death - Suicide - Carbolic Poisoning. Alonzo's death certificate tells us that his DOB was actually 07 Aug 1857 and his mother was "Miss Dale". We have done extensive research on this. It appears the information would be correct. If it is true, Alonzo was always about 9-10 years old than he said. His mother being "Miss Dale seems possible, All I can see is a "Dale" family held many slaves in 1850-1860 Barbour County Alabama. Pike County and Barbour County are next to each other. Tillery family says there were more spouses for Milton Crawford Tillery than just Penelope and Julia. The "Miss Dale" could have been connected to Julia somehow. Alonzo does appear to be a son of Milton Crawford Tillery. Source: ancestry.com and Virgnia Tillery Perigo
