Veronica A. Watson (nee Rooney), 85, of Manchester, New Jersey, left this world peacefully on October 12, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

Veronica was born in Jersey City on July 24, 1930. She was a member of St. Bridget's parish where she later married the love of her life, the late Donald Watson. In 1965, Veronica and Donald left Jersey City with their growing family (Kathleen, Donna, and Lori) and moved to Hazlet, where another daughter (Kelly) joined the family. She remained in Hazlet raising her four daughters with Donald until retiring and moving to Leisure Knoll in Manchester in 1997.

For many years, Ronnie (her preferred name) worked for Maple Place Pre-school in Keyport where she delighted in spending days with with little children and sharing daily anecdotes around the dinner table every night of things those kids aid or did that made her smile. This love of children was further exemplified when grandchildren became part of her life. As "Nana", Ronnie had a role that she was meant to be. She loved spending time with each of them and has impacted their lives tremendously, leaving with them with beautiful memories they will treasure. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her.

A traditionalist, Ronnie made each and every holiday and birthday special for her family. Having family gatherings at her home with her whole family around brought her such great pleasure and warmth to her heart.

Ronnie was a member of the American Irish Club in Leisure Knoll and The Irish Federation of Monmouth County. Her pride in being 100% Irish and her love of Irish music were apparent to all who knew her. In addition to going to see Irish performers, such as Bobby Byrne, where she could listen to her favorite music and sing along, she loved to do the Irish reels and such. Ever since her beloved Donald left this world, she was looking forward to being reunited with him to dance again to the "Stack of Barley" and waltz to the "Black Velvet Band".

Along with her love of all things Irish, Ronnie was THE number one Yankee fan. Watching the games was her favorite pastime. When the season ended for her Yankees, it was a very long winter as she waited each year for next season to begin. Meeting Paul O'Neill in a suite at Yankee Stadium this past year for her 85th birthday was a highlight of her twilight years.

As the last survivor of her 7 siblings, Ronnie was left as the matriarch of a very large family. The generation of relatives she leaves behind include many nieces and nephews and their families who loved her and will miss her dearly. Their Aunt Ronnie, "Aunt Sis", or "Aunt DiDi" held a special place in their hearts. Being able to stay connected with them (and many other friends) through Facebook brought her great joy.

In addition to being predeceased by her beloved Donald and all of her siblings, Veronica's biggest heartbreak came two years ago when her special grandson, Michael, passed suddenly. Being reunited with her little angel is something she looked forward to. Ronnie is survived by her four daughters and their husbands: Kathleen Watson Thomas & William in Middletown, Donna Watson in Florida, Lori Monte & Mark in Brick, and Kelly Fedak & Michael in CT. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren who will miss their Nana immensely: Alison (and Andy) Lee in SC, Carey (and Bob) Piotrowski in Matawan, Heather (and Bob) Barrett in FL, Chris Thomas in Middletown, Kristina Monte in Brick, Emily Fedak in CT, and Peter and Ryan Fedak in MA. Also left to miss their Nana are her great grandchildren: Kaylee, Bryce, Camryn, Bridget, Carsen, and Owen.

Friends and family may visit on Thursday, 4-8 PM, at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at St Dominic's Church in Brick. Donations in Veronica's memory may be made to the "Only You Foundation", PO Box 854, Fairfield, CT 06824, www.onlyyoufoundation.org.
