Arthur S. Thompson Jr.
Arthur S. Thompson, Jr., age 75, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at his home in Alexandria, MN.

Art was born November 24, 1944 in Starbuck, MN to Arthur, Sr. and Esther (Reed) Thompson. He was a graduate of Jefferson Sr High in Alexandria. After graduating from Alex Tech, he married Barbara (Berger) on June 19, 1965 and they moved to the Twin Cities where he began working as a machinist at World Tool & Aerospace. They moved back to Alexandria a few years later where he worked for several machining companies before becoming a Machine Tool Technology instructor at Alexandria Technical & Community College. He and Barb also operated the Golden Eagle Trap Range in Alexandria for many years.

In his early years, Art could often be found on the lake slalom and trick skiing or ski jumping. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting sports his entire life and was an avid reader of westerns, historical accounts and crime thrillers. It would be an understatement to say that Art was a social butterfly; it seemed like he knew just about everybody. His family and friends will always remember him for his unique sense of humor, quick wit, and distinctive laugh.

Art is survived by: Barb, his wife of fifty-five years; his children, Doug (Jessica) Thompson, of Sartell, MN, Randy (Sue) Thompson of Alexandria, MN and Stacey (Shawn) Tischer of Ghent, MN; grandchildren Hali (Josh) Tester, Hunter, Chase and Bailee Thompson & a great-grandchild on the way; sister Patricia (Dale) Walz of Sauk Rapids, MN, two nieces and many friends that are like family. He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and several close friends.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14th and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 15th at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Wayne Erickson officiating. For anyone unable to attend, this memorial service will be live streamed from Arthur’s obituary page on the Anderson Funeral Home website.
