Shelia L Evans, 87, of Findlay, passed away at her residence with family by her side on Tuesday.

Shelia was born on Oct. 24, 1932, to Alonzo "Lonnie" and Fannie (Newton) Brumback.

Shelia moved to Ohio from the hills of Kentucky when she was just 9 years old. Soon after, in fifth grade, she met Bill, who would later become her husband. In high school, she was lead cheerleader and graduated valedictorian at Middle Point High, Class of 1950. On March 28, 1953, she married her grade school sweetheart, William Roger Evans, who preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 2007.

Surviving Shelia are her children, Jeffrey (Yancey Allison) Evans, of Como, Mississippi, and Audrey L. (Grant) Davis of Findlay; her grandchildren, Erica (Adam) Bachorik of Toledo and Jared Davis of Findlay; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

As the second youngest of 11 children, she is preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters. Shelia has a heart of giving to others.

She led a career as a librarian that first started as a volunteer at Washington Elementary where she gave her time for 8 years, establishing the library through book donations that filled only a small shelf. Shelia grew the book stacks, creating the Washington Elementary Library over the next 27 years as a library aid. Recognition was common for Shelia. The school honored Shelia's dedication to education and named the library she worked so hard to build, The Shelia L. Evans Library. One of her proudest accomplishments was the monthly school event, "Library Night," where families gathered together to read books and discover the joy of reading.

Shelia and Bill were both MAZZA Museum enthusiasts, and she was also a docent, giving tours for scheduled events.

Shelia then retired from education to become a more integral part of her grandkids' lives. Aside from the joy of her grandchildren, Shelia also enjoyed puzzles, gardening, time with family at the lake and good country music.

A private funeral service for family and special friends will be held at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, on Friday, with Pastor Jeff Motter presiding. Burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute in memory of Shelia to Mazza Museum, 1000 North Main Street Findlay, Ohio 45840; St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 120 West Sandusky Street, Findlay, Ohio 45840 or Bridge Home Health & Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
