Anna Ruth Andrews passed away peacefully at home in Longmont, Colorado, under hospice care on September 9, 2020, at midnight, with her daughter Michele and grandchildren (Avery and Taylor) right by her side. She was 87 years old. A woman of faith, Anna Ruth raised in the Southern Baptist faith and in later years attended Hygiene United Methodist Church.
She was born in Sevier County, Tennessee, at the family farm on December 6, 1932, to Noah and Nancy Jo “Nannie” McCarter. Growing up during the Depression years and World War II, experiencing hard times, she knew the value of sacrifice, hard work and the importance of family. Anna Ruth was extremely proud of her family, home state of Tennessee, the Tennessee Vols, and of her Scots-Irish, French, English, and Cherokee heritage.
A true love story began mid-June 1951, Edward and Anna Ruth (Ann as he always called her - the only one to call her just Ann) bumped into each other at the Morristown, Tennessee, train station. They continued their conversation on the train through the entire trip, he was headed home to Colorado from Fort Jackson Army Base, South Carolina, and she was headed to Kansas City, Missouri, for Delta Airlines flight attendant school. She knew right away that she was going to be Mrs. Edward Roos, they remained together until his passing in 1972.
Anna Ruth married Edward Roos on August 14, 1951, and moved to La Junta, Colorado, where they raised their five children, Debra, Lisa, Stephen, Timothy, and Michele. Edward was a conductor for the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad and he passed away on June 2, 1972, from complications related to his second open heart surgery in Kansas City, Kansas. She married George Andrews on January 31, 1975, and moved to Burlington, Colorado, where she raised daughter Michele and helped George with the farm and feedlot operation. Shortly after the death of her second husband George Andrews on November 29, 1992, she moved to Longmont, Colorado to be close to family.
While in La Junta, in addition to raising her children, Anna Ruth was the founder and leader of the Busy Beavers 4-H Club for several years. She supported and encouraged her children to try their hardest whether it was in school, school or church activities, 4-H, or sports, and advocating for all children as well. Anna Ruth also became to be known as one of the best cooks and crafters around, a reputation that followed her to both Burlington and Longmont. She made dolls and bunny rabbits that were commissioned to an Estes Park gift shop, many of which are now residing in homes around the world.
As grandchildren and great-children were added to the growing family over the years, she continued to be supportive and protective of them, loving them unconditionally. Until her health would not allow, she always made an effort to attend activities and events that the grandchildren and great grandchildren were participating in.
After moving to Longmont, Anna Ruth was first employed at Hardees in Boulder, Colorado. While there, she received the Hardees Corporate Western Region Employee of the Year award in 1996.
For the last 19 years, up until April 2020, she was employed by Walmart at the 905 store in Longmont, Colorado. She loved the independence and lifelong friendships she gained by working there over the years. Many children of both fellow employees and customers considered her their grandmother as well, which she was proud of that fact. Anna Ruth was very conscientious as an employee and very seldom missed work, regardless of whether there was “inclement weather” or that the Via bus was not running because of their holiday schedule.
Anna Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Noah and Nancy Jo (Catlett) McCarter, sister Margaret (McCarter) Williford, husband Edward Eugene Roos, second husband George E. Andrews, daughter Lisa Gaye Roos, and son Timothy Eugene Roos.
She is survived in death by her daughter Michele Roos-Gautreaux (Jeremy), son Stephen Roos, daughter Debra (Roos) Foulk, grandchildren Taylor Wolf, Avery Wolf, Eleni Wolf, Matilda “Tilley” Roos, Jason Foulk (Ashley), Ashley Castanik (Craig), and Tyra Pritt (Josh), great grandchildren Dimitri Castanik, Alyssa Castanik, Wyatt Pritt, and Marshall Pritt, and special kitty Zeke. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Tennessee, Colorado, and Oregon.
She will be laid to rest with her beloved Edward, Timothy and Lisa in La Junta, Colorado. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private memorial for family and close friends will be held at a later determined date. As a part of her heart was always still in Tennessee – it is only fitting that a part of her heart is returned to Tennessee. Her family will also see that she will also be with her family at the Alder Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Sevier County, TN.
