Our beloved wife, mother, aunt, sister, grandmother and dear friend, Sharon Romney Morgan, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, September 28, 2020 at the age of 64.
Sharon was born on a warm summer day in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, on the 14th of June 1956. She was the fourth child in their large family of eight. Being a middle child meant she was the well-adjusted one, not burdened with too much responsibility, nor overly spoiled; a position which earned her bragging rights for having “middle child syndrome” rights she would remind her siblings of whenever possible.
In high school she was voted Homecoming Queen which was an indication of how well she was liked by the entire student body. She was a friend to all. She was a little shy as a teenager, but she never let that stand in the way of a fun adventure. She played the clarinet in band and learned to become quite proficient on the piano, thanks to her dear mother. She participated in choir and had a nice singing voice that she inherited from both of her parents.
After graduating High School in Mexico, Sharon attended BYU-Provo, that is, until she experienced her first long and snowy Utah winter. Since she was lacking the necessary tolerance for freezing cold weather, she quickly made her way down south to the hot Arizona desert. Sharon studied hard and became a court reporter in the late ‘80s and started working with Kunz Reporting where she had a successful career in Arizona.
She moved to Utah in 1991, and soon after met the tall, dark, and handsome Clay Morgan. Clay was fun-loving and gregarious and worked his charms on Sharon. It didn’t take long for him to win her heart and they were soon married. Sharon had the privilege of helping to raise Clay's two children, Skyler, and Brianna, and in 1994 they welcomed their beautiful daughter, Jade, into their family. They were sealed as an eternal family in the Mesa, AZ temple.
Sharon was a hard worker and continued her career in court reporting, working with the top court reporting firms in Salt Lake City. She became Realtime Certified, a distinguished accomplishment setting her apart as one of the best. Even though she was busy with work and her family, Sharon made time for friends, her sisters, and her extended family. She found great fulfilment in those relationships. She truly loved being around people, entertaining and hosting parties in her home. Her home was always the hub for a great gathering. She was kind and generous, warm, and easy to talk to.
Her adventurous spirit led her to thrilling sports like sky diving and scuba diving, and it was not unusual for her to take a few girlfriends and their kids boating on the lake. Those who knew her best, though, will tell you that she was truly the happiest when she could lay by a pool and soak in the scorching summer sun. You never saw Sharon without her make-up on and her hair done and dressed to a tee, even if that meant everyone would be waiting for an extra 15 minutes. Some things were worth the wait and Sharon always kept us waiting! She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. Sharon had a huge heart and was always the first to step in to help someone in need. She welcomed many of her nieces and nephews into her home for months at a time and always made them feel loved and welcome. Her home became their home away from home, only without the home cooked meals. She wasn’t exactly known for her cooking skills.
Sharon was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed many callings throughout her lifetime. She loved and quietly served in so many ways. She was generous with her time and was always so very willing to serve.
Sharon is survived and will be missed by her husband Clay Morgan, and their children Ty (Kristina) Daley, Skyler (Laura) Morgan, Brianna (Jared) Staker and Jade Morgan; her 7 grandchildren, her mother LaNon and step-father Dean Turley, her siblings Doug (Kennie) Romney, Susan (Scott) Wagner, Janice Romney, Steven (Silvia) Romney, Marsha (Brent) Beuchert, Dianne (Randy) Curtis, Cheryl (and the late John Belnap) and countless nieces and nephews who love her dearly.
Sharon is preceded in death by her father Maxel Stevenson Romney, brother-in-law John Belnap, nephew Max Belnap and niece Cierra Curtis whom we know welcomed her home.
