Robert Amos Dumas, Sr, passed peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, October 3, 2020. , just ten days shy of his 92nd birthday. He was the beloved husband of the late Beulah (Bell) Dumas for 65 years.

Born and raised in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Joseph and Roseanna (Theroux) Dumas.

As a US Merchant Marine and a member of the Seafarers Union since the age of 17, he served for 46 years. Including years during WWII and both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He traveled around the world twice, crossing the International Date Line, countless trips through the Panama Canal and the Gulf of Mexico. He loved his years at sea and shared many stories of his travels with all of us.

After retiring, he and Beulah traveled across the country and spent many summers in Maine, visiting many of his retired shipmates. He was an avid wood worker, with his specialty making rocking horses for his great grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews. As a resident at Apple Rehab Clipper in Westerly, he began gardening. He took pride in “his flowers” at the front of the facility. For past five years, Bob was a parishioner at Church of the Ascension, Wakefield, RI. He became an honorary member of the Altar Guild, polishing all the brass and silver for Christmas and Easter services.

Bob is survived by four children, Robert and his wife Cheryl of Stewartstown, PA., Russell and his wife Susan of Hull, MA, Beverly and her husband Andrew of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Betsy Olbrych of Charlestown, RI. In addition to his children, he leaves seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Theodore and Henry Dumas, his best friend, William Gilbert and his great-grandson, Brendan Dumas.

Private services will be held at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to, Church of the Ascension, 370 Main Street, Wakefield, RI 02879
