Russell W. Robbins Jr., 87, of Peoria IL., passed away at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Heartland Health Care Center in Peoria. He was born on December 7, 1928, in Peoria, a son of Russell and Ellen Jackson Robbins Sr.
Russell married Clara Wingate on April 11, 1947, in Baltimore, MD. She preceded him in death on January 2, 2004.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Mark A. Robbins; two brothers; and one sister.
Russell was the loving father of one son, James M. Robbins of Peoria; and two daughters, Brenda L. (Richard) Emmons and Anita (Steve) Gosch, both of Mapleton, IL. He was also the loving grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Russell worked as an Ironworker for the Union Local #112 for many years.
He was a member of the Early V-8 Club, and an avid racing fan and stock car driver at the Peoria Speedway.
Russell was a United States Navy veteran, enlisting in December of 1945.
