Obituary for Loyd Verlin Hensley
Loyd Verlin Hensley, 65, of Ewing, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October
4, 2020.
Born on February 10, 1955, Verlin was the youngest son of the late Herbert and Pearlie (Thomas) Hensley. Verlin is well known for his wonderful country gospel music. At the age of 6, he learned to
play the guitar and as a teenager he sang country and bluegrass in bars and different venues. After losing his voice as a young man, he promised God that he would only sing for Him and he kept that promise producing six country gospel recordings and two live
television programs. According to radio personality and Nashville producer Gregg Hutchins, Verlin was "The Real Deal" and his music was loved world-wide. Above everything else, Verlin's greatest joy was his family. He loved them dearly and he always tried to step in and help whenever he could. His heart was also to be able to give to those who were in need.
In addition to his parents, Verlin was preceded in death by five siblings: JS, Steve, Truman, Lelan and Janice (Burton) Johnson, and a baby granddaughter, Andrea Hensley.
Verlin is survived by his wife, Jody; son and family, Aaron "Andy", daughter-in-law Alesha and grandchildren Dillon and Bethany Hensley of Rose Hill, VA; six sisters, Loretta (Carl) Duvall, Maggie Brock, Drucellia (Argene) Hunley, Jean (Charles) Long, Bonnie (Carson) Hounshell, all of Ewing, VA, and Marteen (Alvin) Clouse of Jonesville, VA, and many
beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, beginning at 1pm at the Herbert & Pearlie Family Cemetery in Ewing, VA, with the funeral service at 2pm. Pastor Ronnie Oplinger held the funeral service.
