Herbert served in the U.S. Navy and then graduated from Fennimore High School. He was employed as the Superintendent of Utilities in Fennimore before joining John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement in 1990. Herbert was a retired member of the Fennimore Fire Department and was an active member of the Whitish-Funk American Legion Post# 184 for 73 years, he served as Commander in 1983. Herb was a member of the Fennimore United Methodist Church and actively volunteered in many community organizations. He and Harriet were chosen as Family of the year in 2013.
Herbert loved supporting Fennimore High School sports along with the Badgers and Packers. He also liked playing cards, going ice fishing, and was an avid reader. Herb was a self-taught craftsman who learned to whittle wood and make stain glass ornaments. He was a problem solver that enjoyed the challenge of fixing anything. Herbert will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and a very quick wit but most of all, his dedication to his family and community.
Herbert is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years Harriet of Fennimore, three daughters; Cynthia Brun-Wagner of Oshkosh, Ann (Randall) Alcorn of Franklin, Sara (Mark) Bogdan of New Lenox, IL and honorary son Rene (Luciana) Leonel Filho of Brazil, six grandchildren; Bradley (Michelle) Alcorn, Michaela Wagner, Laura Wagner, Mark Jr. (Alexis) Bogdan, Jeni Bogdan, Adam Bogdan, and two great grandchildren; Virginia and Beau Bogdan, along with other family members and friends.
Herbert was preceded in death by his grandson Benjamin Alcorn, son-in-law Michael Wagner, parents Herbert and Carroll English (Brun) Everson, and stepfather Harold Everson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday October 9, 2020 at the Fennimore United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 P.M. on Thursday October 8, 2020 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Friday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers a memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Herbert L. Brun. If you are planning on attending the visitation or funeral services, the wearing of facemasks is being required.
