Bettie Jean Ball
September 5, 1928 - September 21, 2020

Obituary
Bettie Jean Ball, of Yukon Oklahoma, passed away Monday, September 21, 2020, at Integris Health Edmond, in Edmond, Oklahoma to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 92.
Bettie was born September 5, 1928, in Liberal, Kansas to Elmer and Nellie (Matkin) Phillips. She grew up on the family farm with her four sisters, Joyce, Phyllis, Norma, and Lois. She and her sisters all loved playing basketball and later in life became big OKC Thunder fans… rarely missing a game.
Bettie graduated from Eureka High School, Bakersburg, Oklahoma, May 1946 and then attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She later went on to receive her Masters of Education degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
While at Panhandle State University she met and later married Frank D. Ball on July 8, 1949. To this union, Frank and Bettie had four daughters, Carolyn Sue, Vicki Lynne, Nancy Anne and Jill Annette. Bettie’s family continued to grow over the years with six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was always very proud of her grandchildren and all their accomplishments.
Over the next several years, Bettie taught at several school districts. She most enjoyed teaching school at Mustang Valley Elementary where she would make friends she would have for over forty years. Bettie retired after 37 years of dedicated service. She was an excellent first grade teacher. She was highly respected by colleagues and adored by parents and students alike. She helped many students who struggled with reading… learn to be excellent readers… making a life changing impact on their lives.
In her spare time, Bettie didn’t just enjoy bowling; she loved bowling with her dearest friends Donna, Patsy, Verla, Martha and the rest of the bowling league gang. It was hard to tell which she liked more, the bowling…. or after a few games going out with her friends for a Diet Coke and some fun. She didn’t let much of anything come between her and bowling, not even a broken hip at age 87. Bettie’s whole motivation for physical therapy was to return to her bowling buddies and get back to bowling…. and Bettie did return to bowling for a while before her health finally caused her to retire.
Five months ago when it came time for Assisted Living Care, Bettie said she wanted to go where her sister, Phyllis, was staying. Phyllis helped Bettie with so many things, but the one that she liked most was when they would ride together down the hallways, exploring and causing mischief on their motorized scooters. What one didn’t think of, the other one did!
Bettie is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Nellie Phillips; daughters, Nancy Anne and Carolyn Sue; son-in-law, Ray; sisters, Norma and Joyce. She is survived by her husband, Frank; sisters, Phyllis and Lois; daughters, Vicki Lynch and husband Chuck and Jill Carr and husband Lydell; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
