Roy Ernest Watson, age 81, of Athens passed away on September 29, 2020, He was born on February 24, 1939 in Pineland, Texas to William Estley Watson and Mamie Gertrude (Simmons) Watson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elsie Watson; son, Keith Watson; granddaughter, Kelsie Watson; brother, Wayne Watson; sister, Evelyn Randolph.
Roy graduated from Jasper High School where he met his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Elsie. During his time in Jasper he helped build the Sam Rayburn Dam. After time in Jasper they moved to Athens in 1964. He went to work for Curtis Mathis/Harvey Industries, where he became the Vice President of Manufacturing. He then went on to work for the prison system until his retirement. After retirement he started driving the school bus for Athens ISD where he was greatly loved by the kids. Roy loved to fish and hunt, playing cards, traveling and sports. But he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca Young and husband Joe Ed; grandchildren, Brandon Young and wife Lesley, Chandon Young and Jessica Feagins, Kourtney McEvoy and husband Dustin; great grandchildren, Caden Young, Keaton Young, Emma Young, Ayrianna Young, Payton Parker, Aubrey Parker, Hudson Martin, Gatlin McEvoy; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Linda Swan.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Chandon Young, Brandon Young, Dustin McEvoy, Caden Young, Keaton Young, Zachary Gardner.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday October 2, 2020 at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Graveside services will be on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 11 AM at Athens City Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
