Shirley Jean George Luna, age 71, a McMinnville, TN resident and Warren County, TN native, was born December 31, 1948 and passed October 4, 2020 at her residence following an extended illness.

She was a teacher with the Warren County School System for thirty years, a member of Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and the daughter of Doris Moore George and the late Paul George.

Ms. Luna had many accomplishments including 1st runner-up as Fairest of the Fair in 1965, girls state 1965, recipient of the John High Award, All Mid-State for McMinnville Central Basketball in 1966, Gramma to two grandchildren, recipient of the Evening Exchange Club Book of Golden Deeds, and recipient of BPW Woman of the Year in 1985.

She is survived by daughter, Christy Luna of McMinnville, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Justin (Mandee) Luna of Minden, Nevada; two grandchildren, Bennett Luna and Maggee Luna; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy (Emily) George, Billy (Connie) George, and Ronnie (Jane) George all of McMinnville, TN. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also survive.

Memorial donations may be made to the National M.S. Society, Mid-South Chapter, 214 Overlook Circle, Suite 153, Brentwood, TN 37027, or the Tennessee Kidney Foundation, 37 Peabody St., Suite 206, Nashville, TN 37210.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 7th, 2020 at Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Larry Green, Harry Green, and Kelly Marlowe officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery in McMinnville, TN. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church. No visitation will be held at High’s. The family request everyone wear mask and practice social distancing.
