Donald Earl Strickland, age 84, went to heaven to be with the Lord, on Monday, September 28, 2020. He was born on December 23, 1935 at home in Mackey, IN to Earl and Ethel Strickland.
Don was a graduate of Mackey High School, Class of 1953. He was a life time member of Mackey Church of the Nazarene where he served as Sunday school teacher, church board director, children’s bible quiz director, and building committee director. He was a member of the East Gibson County School Board for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marlyn Sue (Dobbs); five children Donita (Keith) Fuelling of Mt Vernon, IN, Pam (Kevin) Kruse of Mackey, IN, Tim (Donna) Strickland of Washington, IN, Teresa (Chad) Morris of Evansville, IN and Tony (Dawn) Strickland of Mackey, IN; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, three sisters Ruth (Ron) Ringham, Marilyn (Harry) Sellards and Connie (Mike) Barr and one brother Robert (Ruth) Strickland.
He is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Ethel Strickland, four sisters Norma June Miller, Joyce Parke, Vonda Miles and Bonnie Lundeen and four brothers Lloyd Strickland, Norman Strickland, Dennis Strickland and Larry Strickland.
Don worked 30+ years as a local farmer and spent that last few years of his life as a sales director for the Conklin Company. Prior to that, he was owner of D&M Garage in Mackey, IN and worked at Rocket Wholesale and Hucks Feedstore in Mt Vernon, IN. He enjoyed playing card games, hunting arrow heads and spending time with his family.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020 at 10am (CST) at Mackey Church of the Nazarene with burial at Townsley Cemetery in Mackey, IN. Rev Jared Henry will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct 2, 2020 from 4-8pm (CST) and Saturday, Oct 3, 2020 from 9-10am
