Valerie Darlene Turner, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 after a battle with Parkinson's disease.
Graveside Service will be Friday, June 17, 2022 at 10 am at Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 5-7 at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home.
Valerie was born May 27, 1948 in Wichita Falls to Richard Frank and Bobbie Jean Helms. She was a 1966 graduate of Wichita Falls High School. She and Gary Turner were married October 10, 1967.
Valerie attended nursing school at "Bethania Hospital School of Vocational Nursing" where she got her LVN license on July 7, 1968. She was a dedicated and caring nurse until her retirement. She worked at Bethania Hospital in the emergency room and other floors, worked with private in-home cases and in skilled nursing facilities. She provided excellent care to all aged patients.
She loved bird watching, gardening, traveling, and cats.
She passed her love of cats onto her daughters, and even to her dog loving mother. She volunteered at 2 different animal shelters caring for cats. The one that stole her heart was Cozy Cat Cottage Adoption Center. She would always volunteer when she visited her daughter.
Valerie is preceded in death by her parents, Richard Frank Helms and Bobbie Jean Helms and her husband of 33 years, Gary Turner.
She is survived by her Daughters, Jennifer L. Teague (Jack) of Iowa Park Texas, Amy L Smerecky (Joseph) of New Albany Ohio, Brother, Tony Helms (Glynna) of Wichita Falls, Grandchildren, Tanner Teague (Devon) of Wichita Falls, Savannah Teague of Iowa Park, nieces, Marla York (Scott) of Wichita Falls and Amanda Helms of Denton, 11 Grandcats and 1 Granddog.
To respect Valerie's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cozy Cat Cottage Adoption Center for spay and neuter surgeries, PO Box 283, 43065.
The family gives sincere thanks for the love and care provided by the staff of The Sanctuary at Tuttle Crossing and Capital City Hospice.
