Jim J. Wisdom, age 80 of Carl Junction, passed away at 10:35 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2007 at St. John's Regional Medical Center.
Born March 16, 1927 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Onie and Rebecca Asbury Wisdom and lived in Carl Junction his lifetime. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II from 1945 to 1946. He received his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science in Education from Pittsburg State University. He taught school at Chetopa, Galesburg, Galena and Cherryvale, KS. While teaching at Carl Junction, he was a coach, initiated the Carpentry program and retired as Principal in 1977. He then owned and operated a construction company until 1998. He served as Mayor of Carl Junction from 1998 to 2003. He was a member of Carl Junction Christian Church and a dual member of Masonic lodges, Fellowship Lodge No. 345 A.F.& A.M. and Southwest Heritage Lodge No. 681, both in Joplin.
On June 14, 1945 he married Ramona Hough at Baxter Springs, KS. She preceded him in death November 12, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul; four sisters, Lois Boan, Wilma Updegraff, Bessie Morgan and Beanna Black.
Survivors include two sons, James "Bryan" Wisdom and wife Carol of Victoria, TX, Robert Paul "Bob" Wisdom and wife Susan of Manhattan, KS; sister, Melba Ebright of Joplin and a grandson, Zachary Wisdom.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20th at Carl Junction Christian Church with Boyce Mouton, minister officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Carl Junction Cemetery with Leroy Wilson, Don Clark, Wilbur Wright, Joe Sandridge, Gary Drennan and Clay Garner serving as pallbearers. Masonic Rites will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Carl Junction Christian Church, after which the family will receive friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carl Junction Cemetery Association or Carl Junction Senior Center.
