John Marion Holloway, 94, passed away on October 3, 2020, in Waco, Texas, at Hillcrest Scott & White Baylor Hospital. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

John was born on June 22, 1926, in Roane, Texas, to the late Arthur Burton Holloway and Lula Pearl Reagan Holloway. He lived in Roane until he entered the military service in the U.S. Army’s 11th Airborne Division, the “Angels Division”, and served in the Pacific theater in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. He attained the rank of Sergeant. He was on a troop transport ship headed for the invasion of Japan when an atomic bomb dropped on each of two Japanese cities.

John’s life revolved around his family. He loved spending time with Ruby Jewell, with his children and many grandchildren. He was baptized and a member of the Roane Baptist Church where he met Ruby at an ice cream social.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Jewell Aven on July 5, 2015; sisters, Gladys Sims and her husband, Kyle, and Marzie Auerbach and her husband, Don; and brothers: Morris Holloway and his wife, Lucille, Reagan Holloway and his wife, Blanch, and Bryan Holloway and his wife, Kay.

Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Smith and her husband, Robert Pat; sons, Ricky Holloway and his wife, Patti, and Jon Holloway and his wife, Melanie; grandchildren: Tiffany Hansen Raye and her husband, Tommy, Mark Batte and his wife, Chris, Lauren Cathey and her husband, Billy Joe, Scott Holloway and his wife, K.K., and Brooke Holloway; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Sue Clark and her husband, John; other relatives and many friends.
