Hettie Ruth Warren died Sunday, Sept. 20, in her Burleson home surrounded by family.

Ruth was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Dennis, Texas, to Arthur Augustus Pearson and Jewel Rose Pearson. She grew up with a younger sister, Billie Jo Fenter, who died in 1983.

She met Robert C. Warren Sr. in 1943 and the two fell in love and married in 1943 at First United Methodist Church in downtown Fort Worth. She raised three sons, James Paul, Wesley Eugene and Robert Clinton Jr. The family attended Grace United Methodist Church in Fort Worth for many years.

Ruth had a long career with the Fort Worth City Credit Union. She woke up early every morning to make breakfast for all of her boys before making the short drive from their Arlington Heights home to the office.

Ruth survived the Great Depression, World War II, open-heart surgery and breast cancer. She became a grandmother many times over, then a great-grandmother. She was never happier when she was holding one of those tiny babies or listening to any of those kids tell her stories. Her house was always open to her family, for weekends away or holiday dinners. A child of the Great Depression, she always ensured everyone had plenty to eat - and then some. She was a creator, as talented at her Singer sewing machine as she was with a crochet hook. Many family members snuggled under blankets she crocheted for them or trick-or-treated in her homemade costumes. She even tried quilting for a time.

She read voraciously and traveled as long as she was able, first with her husband and later with a friend. Cruises to Alaska were her favorite.

Ruth and Robert celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1993 surrounded by family and friends. Her husband of 54 years, Robert, passed away in January 1997. After his death, she sold their Fort Worth home and moved to Burleson, next door to her youngest son's family. She continued to host holidays, baby showers and birthdays. As she got older, younger family members took over the hosting duties, but always at her home. She lived briefly in Arkansas before returning to her beloved Texas, spending her final years back in Burleson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, her husband and her daughter-in-law, Carole Warren.
She is survived by her sons: Paul Warren (Kathy) of Berryville, Ark., Wesley Warren of Knoxville, Tenn. and Robert C Warren Jr. (Patrice) of Burleson, Texas., many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Greenwood Cemetery, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth. Face masks are mandatory for all who attend.
