Comic, Entertainer. Eric Morecambe was born John Eric Bartholomew in the Lancashire seaside town of Morecambe. He was one half of the legendary British comic double act of Morecambe and Wise (along with Ernie Wise). The double act is regarded by many to be the best that Britain has ever produced. Their T.V. show "The Morecambe and Wise Show" particularly the Christmas specials became a national institution. The 1977 Christmas Show entered the Guinness Book of Records for having the largest British television audience of between 27.5 and 28 million. The shows also attracted famous names to appear in them, including Laurence Olivier, Glenda Jackson and The Beatles. Eric was particularly famous for poking fun at British singer Des O'Connor, who also appeared on their shows. The double act ended in 1984 when Eric died of a heart attack. He was also Director of Luton Town Football Club from 1970 to 1975.
