Marilyn Ann Rankin, age 85, passed away on September 17, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on May 21, 1935 in Klamath Falls, Oregon, but spent the majority of her childhood in Mill Valley, California. In 1956, Marilyn graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and taught grade school for three years. Then with an adventurous spirit she went to Ulm, Germany to teach school for the US Army. There she met Lt. Colonel John Rankin during his recovery from a parachuting accident. They were married 8 months later in 1960.

While raising three children, Marilyn started a business called Pleasant Pastimes where she spent her spare time teaching classes in all kinds of handwork such as quilting, knitting, crocheting, beading, and cross-stitching. She also was an excellent piano teacher and had as many as 18 students at one time. All these talents she passed along to her children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by her daughter in 2003 and her husband in 2006, she moved into Sunrise Senior Living facility with her amiable cat Penrod. After her passing, a miracle happened and Pendrod was adopted by one of Marilyn’s caretakers.

Marilyn’s celebration of life ceremony will be held on October 9th, 2pm MST at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City.
