Esther May ((Dunkin) Owens

Esther Dunkin was born in Pearce, Cochise, Arizona on January 15, 1911 to J.W. and Elizabeth (Michaelson) Dunkin.

Esther became a nurse in California and met her husband Pierre Louis Bertrand in 1935 at the hospital where she was working. Pierre was brought into the hospital with severe injuries sustained in a crash during a race in the AAA Pacific Coast Sprint Car circuit. While he was recuperating they got to know each other very well and they married on April 29, 1935 in Los Angeles County, California.

When Esther was expecting their first daughter, she wanted Pierre to get out of the car racing business due to the level of danger it presented to her husband. He agreed and started his own business grinding racing cams for racing cars and boats. Ironically he died of pneumonia in 1942 at the young age of forty.

On June 22, 1943 Esther remarried to a man named Ole Edgar Owens, Jr., who became step-father for Esther's two girls Monica Jean and Camille Marie Bertrand.

Ole died on May 8, 1977. Esther did not marry again.

Esther's place of rest is unknown at this time.
