Herman was a member of University Heights Baptist Church for 62 years. He and Doris worked in the nursery together for about 20 years and have many fond memories of the children they watched grow up.
He was also a lifetime member of the Walker County Fair Association and served as an Executive Director. He was a member of the Scramble Heifer Committee for 17 years and worked alongside Doris in Admissions for 12 years.
Herman was a Volunteer Fireman with the Huntsville Fire Department for about 10 years in the late 1950's to late 1960's. After that he worked for Huntsville ISD in the Transportation Department and became the Director of Transportation for about 3 years. The family is grateful to Janice Waldrup under the direction of Pat Oliphant and also to Della Lopez and her staff at Assisted Living of Montgomery County for the tender and loving care they provided to Herman in his final days.
