Shirley A. Farley, 83 of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at a local hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Mater Dei Parish, Immaculate Conception Church with Father Daniel Rupp as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to services at the church. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is assisting the family. Memorials are requested to be offered to The Alzheimer’s Association in Shirley’s name.

Shirley was born on November 16, 1936 in Luverne, Minnesota to Richard and Mildred (Beelmann) Bruining. She received her schooling at Cathedral High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, graduating with the Class of 1955. Shirley married John J. Farley on June 7, 1960 in Sioux Falls.

The family lived in Sioux City from 1966 until 2000 when they moved to Beresford, South Dakota until 2011. From then on, the family has called Sioux City home. She was proud to call herself a homemaker, raising her children and being a wife to John. She worked briefly outside the home at Target in the early 80s until her retirement. . Shirley enjoyed her membership to Catholic Daughters of America along with various committees within the church.

Shirley is survived by her children Lawrence (Kelle) Farley of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Michael (Paula) Farley of Omaha, Nebraska, Patricia (Clark) Tibboel of Sioux City, Iowa, and MaryAnn Farley of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren Stephanie and David Farley of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Davis and Cooper Farley of Omaha; great-grandchildren Jamison Farley of Sioux City and Izabel Farley of South Sioux City; brother Dale (Pat) Bruining of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and sisters Arlene of Sioux Falls, and Cheryl of Omaha.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, one brother, one sister, and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley’s family would like to offer a special “Thank You” to the Bickford Family for their care and compassion.
