Mr. Donald Kooiker, age 93, formerly of Hull and Rock Rapids, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2020, at the Rock Rapids Health Care Center.

There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at 10:30am, at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Mr. Leroy Kooiker will officiate. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Lloyd was born on June 26, 1927, on a farm northwest of Hull, to Lambert and Gertrude “Dot” (Te Slaa) Kooiker. He grew up on his parents’ farm and attended the Lincoln #5 Country School and the Hull High School. After graduation in 1945, he worked at his brother, Ralph’s, factory before farming south of Doon.

He was united in marriage to Frances Faber on February 17, 1950, in Hull. They first lived and farmed south of Rock Rapids until moving to a farm place west of town, where they remained for thirty years. In February of 1987, Don and Frances retired and moved to their home at Spirit Lake. His wife of more than 54 years passed away on July 29, 2004, in Spirit Lake, after battling cancer.

Following Frances’ death, Don moved to an assisted living center in Oskaloosa, to be near his daughter. In July of this year, he became a resident of the Rock Rapids Health Care Center.

Survivors include his daughter, Gayle, and her husband, Dennis Verploegh, of Oskaloosa; a grandson, Todd Feekes, and his wife, Becky, of Boise, Idaho; two great-granddaughters, Natasha, and her husband, Shawn Ledet, and Samantha Feekes; a great-grandson, Alexander Jay Buchholz; two great-great-granddaughters, Sierra Lynn and Addisyn Guinevere Ledet; a sister, Gertrude Viola Van Driel, of Rock Valley; and many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his wife’s parents, Steve and Hattie Faber; three brothers, Ralph Kooiker, and his wives, Jean and Tressa; Gerrit Kooiker, and his wife, Alice; and Albert Kooiker, and his wife, Margaret; and a brother-in-law, Peter J. Van Driel.
