Betty White Ireland Hamlin, 101, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 at Carillon Memory Care. She had braved a ten-year battle with dementia, during which she never lost her sweet disposition.

Betty was born May 7, 1917 on a ranch near Bercail, Montana. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry White; daughter, Elizabeth Ireland (age 21); husband of 45 years, Frank Ireland; and husband of 12 years, Bill Hamlin.

Betty was a lifetime member of the Shippan Point Garden Club of Stamford, CT and a member of garden clubs in Georgetown, SC and Geneva, IL. She loved flower arranging and was an International Flower Show judge. Betty had been a kindergarten teacher and interior decorator. She enjoyed knitting, tennis, bicycling, cooking and traveling. She and Frank lived many years on a boat traveling before finally settling in Georgetown, SC.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Mary Ireland Newsom and husband, Bill, of Etowah, NC; grandsons, Ben Newsom of Whitefish, MT, Frank Newsom of Cornelius, NC, George Newsom and wife, Lauren, of Columbia, SC; and great-grandchildren, Catalina and Donnie Newsom of Columbia, SC.

As she wished, there will be no services.
