Religious Leader. He was a controversial Anglican Church Bishop whose public image was initiated in 1960 when he was a witness for the defense in the famous trial over the publication of D. H. Lawrence's 'Lady Chatterley's Lover'. He subsequently aired his liberal theological views in his book 'Honest to God' (1963).
