Obituary

Richard W. Templeman
Mr. Richard Wallach Templeman, son of the late Capt. George W. Templeman, United States Navy, and a grandson of Major Wallach, a Life Guardsman of Frederick the Great, died yesterday of heart failure, superinduced by grip, at his residence, 1204 St. Paul Street.
Mr. Templeman was born September 12, 1819, in Georgetown, D. C., at the residence of his paternal grandfather, John Templeman, who was president of the Bank of the Commonwealth. Mr. Templeman first saw the light in the old family homestead on Georgetown Heights, which still stands, with its broad terraces stretching down to the Potomac River.
Mr. Templeman’s mother was before her marriage Miss Charlotte Wallach.
In his early boyhood Mr. Templeman was taken to Boston and lived with his grandfather, Major Wallach, in the house occupied by Earl Percy during the Revolutionary War, one of the landmarks prior to the great Boston fire. By a curious coincidence, his first cousin, John Templeman Coolidge, of Boston, is said to have been one of the first, if not the first, victims of grip in this country.
Mr. Templeman was a civil engineer and did much of the United States coast survey work, especially in Florida. Subsequently he settled in Baltimore and became one of the leading brokers, but retired from active business 12 years ago. He was regarded as an authority on real estate.
Mr. Templeman married Miss Maria Allen, daughter of Rev. Ethan Allen, who died five years ago. He is survived by two daughters — Mrs. Robertson Taylor and Mrs. Robert Tunstall Taylor, of Baltimore — and by two sons by a former marriage, who live in California.
Mr. Templeman was active in church work and for 25 years was treasurer of Memorial Protestant Episcopal Church.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from his late residence. Services will be conducted by Rev. William M. Dame. The interment will be in St. John’s churchyard, Waverly.
