Phillip Kenneth Nichols, Sr., 75, of Rocky Mount, died Sunday, September 16, 2007. He was a retired professional photographer and former owner of Nichols Photography in Rocky Mount. He photographed reunions, anniversaries, weddings, portraits, students and sporting events for the Rocky Mount and Franklin County communities from 1959, until he retired in 2003. He was an avid supporter of the students and student athletics of Franklin County and Ferrum College for over 40 years. Mr. Nichols was active in the community through the activities of the Rocky Mount Jaycees, the FCHS Booster Club and he was a former Deacon of the Rocky Mount Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer McKinley and Grace Crews Nichols; brother, Bobby William Nichols and a nephew, Bobby Jr., all of Eden, North Carolina. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joretta; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenny and Brenda Nichols and Steven and Linda Nichols; his grandchildren, Kristie Fisher, Justin Nichols, Jordan Nichols, Phillip Nichols, Kortney Nichols and Andrew Nichols. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Carvel and Billie Jean Nichols; sister and brother-in-law, Arnice and Nathaniel Covington; sister, Evonne Nichols; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Nichols; three nieces and two nephews. Graveside services will be conducted from Franklin Memorial Park, 11 a.m., Wednesday, followed by a memorial service celebrating his life, conducted from Rocky Mount Christian Church at 12 noon with the Rev. Jody Johnson officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Mount Christian Church, 120 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, Va., 24151.
