Dennis I. Powell, 69, of East Syracuse passed peacefully at his home. Denny was a graduate of Binghamton North High School where he lettered in football as a line backer (#63). He also participated in many other sports and clubs during his high school years. A draftee, Denny served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed at CSX, from which he retired in 2010. Denny also served as President of his Local UTU. Though never wanting pets, he spent a lifetime caring for and loving every animal that ended up on his doorstep.

He was predeceased by his wife, Terrie; his parents and a sister. He is survived by his children, Michael (Jennifer), Karen (Chris) Gonyea, Lisa Powell (Sheldon Isaacson, MD) and Valerie Powell (Matt Harris); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers; a sister; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 6 at R.H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel, 6530 Schepps Corners Rd., Minoa. Burial will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 7 at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Fayetteville.
