Joyce Nail Oliver, 79, of Cobbtown, died early Friday, October 2, 2020 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

Born in Cobbtown, she was a daughter of Odis Nail and Gertie Sikes Nail.

She graduated from Collins High School, Class of 59, where she was on a winning basketball team. After graduating high school, she moved to Savannah and worked at Savannah Morning News as a secretary. Joyce was a member of Cobbtown Baptist Church, where she was the pianist and director of the nursery for many years. She dearly loved the little children. She was on several committees, always wanting to work and improve the church in any way she could. Joyce was a past board member of Miss Tattnall County Pageant and also worked with American Cancer Society. She and Carroll married in 1960, moved to Jacksonville then later moved to Augusta. After many years in Augusta, they moved to her hometown of Cobbtown. They owned and operated Oliver Grocery. After the grocery business, Joyce went to work at Tattnall-Evans Training Center in Manassas, where she worked for twenty-seven years as Human Services Tech Supervisor (social worker), a job that she truly loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Odis and Gertie Nail; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jim Reynolds; brother, John Bernald Nail; niece, Lynn Alberson Fail.

She is survived by her husband, Carroll Oliver of Cobbtown; daughter, Ginger Oliver (Stacy) of Hilton Head, SC; sisters, Janice “Poochie” Nail Alberson (Elbert) of Cobbtown, Betty Nail Kulick (Bill) of Cobbtown; brother, Buddy Nail (Ellen) of Cobbtown; sister-in-law, Vera Rogers; and several nieces and nephews.

A walk through visitation will be held from 1:00-2:45 p.m., on Sunday, October 4th at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel. The graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. October 4th at Sunlight Cemetery with Reverend Paul Moore officiating. Remembrances may be made to Cobbtown Baptist Church, P.O. Box 176, Cobbtown, Georgia 30420.
