Joe was the loving son of parents Joe Thomas Day Sr. and Jewel Everritt Day. He was born in Urania, La. on Nov. 8, 1945. His early years were spent growing up in Beaumont, Texas. He graduated from Forest Park High School in 1965. Joe lived most of his adult years in Houston, Texas. His work was in Auto Paint and Body shop which he loved.

In 1966 Joe received draft notice to report to the Army induction center in Houston, Texas. Shortly after arrival he and several others were told they would be going into the US Marine Corp. Over the years folks would challenge him saying " the Marine Corp does not draft - only the Army does that". Well Joe and his family assured everyone that not only can they, they did. He served in the US Marines for two years from 1966 to 1968 receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal. His work was in Communications. He spent time in San Diego at the marine base, on a ship travelling to Turkey, Spain, Portugal and other ports doing communications and also time at Camp Lejeune, NC. He really enjoyed his time at Camp Lejeune as he was able to visit aunts, uncles and cousins that lived in North and South Carolina. He fondly and often recalled those days and time with family.

In talking with Joe's Mom she would always say "The Marines needed a "Few Good Men". I (Pat Day) always said "the Marines wanted him because he was so smart. Seriously! I said to Joe one day, How do you recall and keep so much information in your head? He replied "Well I don't know...but sometimes I just have to spit some of it out to make room for new"! He was a champ at Trivial Pursuit and the grandkids loved playing it with him.

Joe and Pat married on July 19,1980. They have 3 children: Joe T. Day III (Jenny), Kimberly Green Barnett (Lane), Kellie Green Taglioli (Don). Grandchildren: McKayla Barnett (Boston), Lillie Taglioli, Judy Barnett, J.T. Day IV, Donnie Taglioli, Peyton Day, Kyler Michael Day. Great Grandchildren - Briana Lesjak.
