Robert Newton Higgins the s/o Newton Higgins and Dicy Bailey was born November 21, 1830 in Lawrence Dist. (Laurens County), South Carolina and died May 18, 1875 at 44 years of age in Coweta County, Georgia. He married Margaret E. Spence February 5, 1860 in Coweta County, Georgia and they were the parents of 7 children.

1. Mary Isabelle Higgins b: 20 JUN 1861

2. Frances E. Higgins b: 20 JUN 1861

3. Tabitha Elizabeth Higgins b: 28 OCT 1862

4. John Wilson Higgins b: 29 MAY 1866

5. James Jasper Higgins b: 7 FEB 1868

6. Lucy Ann Higgins b: 5 MAR 1870

7. Babe Higgins b/d: 1872

R. N. Higgins was a private April 30, 1862 on the muster Roll of Company G, 53d Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia, Coweta County, Georgia (Georgia Rebels). Appointed 4th Corporal February 1865. Wounded and captured near Sailor's Creek, Virginia April 6, 1865. Released in 1865.
