PITTSFIELD -- George Gilbert Hobson III, 64, of Lowell, formerly of Natick, died Thursday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Roxbury due to complications arising from open heart surgery. He is the father of Nanciann Ryer of Pittsfield and Brian Hobson of Dalton.

Born in Boston on May 7, 1943, son of George and Margaret Smith Hobson, he was raised in Randolph and was a graduate of Randolph High School.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1969.

Mr. Hobson was a lab technician at Raytheon and Polaroid in Watham.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Besides his sons and daughters, he leaves his wife, the former Nancy Fitzgerald, formerly of Dalton; another son, George Hobson of Hopedale; two sisters, Agnes Keating and Elizabeth Burns; a brother, Dennis Hobson; and four grandsons.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mr. Hobson, who died Thursday, April 12, 2007, also leaves his four grandsons, Devin, Kyle, Jaiden and Troy; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick's Church, 44 East Central St., Natick, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Natick. Visiting hours will be held in the JOHN EVERETT & SONS FUNERAL HOME (www.everettfuneral.com) 4 Park St., at Natick Common, Natick, tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Veterans Community Center care of Nanciann Ryer, 24 Elmview Terrace, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
