Ellen was born in Sydney, New South Wales on 5th August 1888, and she was the daughter of John George Riordan and Elizabeth McNulty. She enlisted with the Australian Imperial Force in Sydney in May 1915, and she left Australia and served for two years in Cairo, Egypt, and 18 months in Salonika attached to the 50th General Hospital where she was awarded a Greek Medal for Military Merit, 4th Class. After the war she worked for many years in South Africa and she married Cyril William Kidger Tucker at the Roman Catholic Cathedral, Mombasa, Kenya on 30th April 1930. After the death of her husband, she returned to Australia. In 1967 she applied for the ANZAC Commemorative Medallion 1967 stating she nursed to wounded coming from Gallipoli in Egypt. She received a reply stating it is regretted that this service didn't qualify for the medallion. She died at Coraki, New South Wales on 24th March 1979 aged 89, and she was buried in the Tucki Tucki cemetery, Whyrallah, New South Wales.
