Obituary from Salt Lake Telegram (Salt Lake City, UT) - Wednesday, July 27, 1927:
William Charles Jennings, 67, retired lawyer and mining man of Salt Lake, died Tuesday evening in Oakland, California. Mr. Jennings, who had been in ill health several years, departed a week ago for the coast. The body will be returned to Salt Lake for burial.
Mr. Jennings, who was the son of William Jennings, twice mayor of Salt Lake, was born in Salt Lake, February 15, 1860. He was the first Utah man to be graduated from Harvard University, his class being that of 1883. Three years later he took his law degree from the Harvard Law School and later received his master's degree form the same school.
For more than a year following graduation, he traveled in Europe and on his return was married to Martha Hooper Burgess of Boston, who survives him. For a short time he practiced law in Boston before returning to Salt Lake to make his home in January 1894. Before Utah was admitted to statehood, he served as United States commissioner in this state.
Mr. Jennings was a member of the firm of Jennings & Gray, land attorneys, and retired from active practice in 1925. He was founder and for many years presided over the Friday Night Men's club, of which several prominent Salt Lake professional men were members. He also was a member of the Harvard Club.
Mr. Jennings is survived by his wife; a son, William, and a daughter, Deborah Jennings; a sister, Mrs. W. Scott Crismon of Los Angeles; and six half-brothers, Frank W., Joseph A., James E., Walter P., Harry, and Harold Jennings.
